Welcome!
The Public Education Foundation for the Children of the Edmonds School District (PEF) is a
community-based non-profit organization committed to creating opportunities for students to maximize their personal, creative
and academic potential.
Mission Statement To enhance student learning within The Edmonds School District by securing and distributing financial resources.
Who Is the Public Education Foundation
for the Children of the Edmonds School District? The PEF is comprised of businesses, individuals and families
in the communities of Brier, Edmonds, Lynnwood, Mountlake Terrace and Woodway who volunteer to raise money to enrich the learning
opportunities for all of the students in the Edmonds School District. For over twenty years The Public Education Foundation
has supported students, teachers and schools by putting the money we raise where it enhances student learning the most - directly
into our schools and classrooms. For more about the PEF click here.
How We Raise Money The Public Education Foundation for the Children of the Edmonds School District is a non-profit organization that
operates separately from The Edmonds School District and is funded solely by private contributions; community leaders such
as The Boeing Corporation, Pemco, and Stevens Hospital plus many individual contributors. We have one or two annual
fundraising events. This year our Growing Through the Years Spring Luncheon will be on April 29, 2009 at the Lynnwood Convention
Center. You can help us make a difference for each and every student in the district by attending, hosting a table, or helping
to sponsor our event. For our sponsors click here.
Where the Money Goes PEF gives an average of $45,000 every year to fund classroom needs and school wide requests through our grant process.
We strive to "fill the gap" by funding projects that are not covered by state and federal monies, such as science
text books, math and science software, math manipulatives and accessible playground equipment. We also provide scholarships
for summer school and give new teachers funds to help set up their classrooms. Our grants provide funds for unique and creative
lessons that align with the Edmonds School District curriculum and inspire growth in math, science, art, reading and writing.

A
message from our President, Debbie Bodal
2009
PEF Grant Recipients - Thirty Six grants were awarded to 24 schools totaling $35,000
800
million has been cut from our state budget that would have gone to reduce class size and to hire more teachers. The
Public Schools throughout the state are now cutting
programs, training, laying off teachers and enlarging class sizes. Of the $800 million, $11.5 million was
cut from the Edmonds School District. Federal windfall money over the next two years will bring back $400
million but earmarked for special education and low income students. Due to the limits on how
the new federal stimulus money can be spent, the additional money means many districts will improve or maintain services for
special ed and low income students while cutting programs and laying off teachers for core curriculum such as math and science.
In Edmonds the cuts have affected transportation, athletics, music, the performing arts, teacher layoffs, superintendent staff,
and district programs have been cut. Class room sizes will go up. Edmonds school district has a population
of 21,500 (compared to Bellevue which is 16,900 students and a 5.5mil cut fro their budget). You have probably
recently read about the library cuts in the Bellevue school district. It was actually considered in this
district, but several schools and parents protested early on and the district decided to rethink the idea. It is my goal, as president, of the PEF which serves Lynnwood, Edmonds, Brier, Mountlake Terrace and Woodway, is
to public awareness & support within our communities for the need to support our schools. The public
schools are teaching our future citizen of our communities, it is important that we have a well educated community so that
they will become involved citizens. I am not working for the district or here to represent the district,
I am here as a volunteer who cares about our schools and our communities.
